[Daring Dan](CKVJC5BG) was always one of the boys. She never played with pink girly toys. She’d rather race cars, dinosaurs, and bikes. Her favorite was flying really big kites!

Dirt in her hair? She never did care! Her mother would plead, 'Stay inside! Maybe read?' But [Daring Dan](CKVJC5BG) never budged—there were adventures to be had, maybe even in mud!

Her bike was once pretty, with streamers and glitter. But she fixed it with paint and robot stickers. However, there was a problem you see: her trusty bike had more wheels than three!

To the garage she announced, and onto the red toolbox she quickly pounced! With [Philip](V5BMJG3C)’s head screwdriver in hand, Dan was ready to take her stand.

She tiptoed through the house, stealthy as can be, imagining it’s a top-secret federal dome. Avoiding every squeaky stair and laser beam, she could almost hear the spy movie theme!

Caught you! It's her brother [Philip](V5BMJG3C), standing tall in the hall. 'I’m going to tell Mom,' he teased, with a toothy grin. But [Daring Dan](CKVJC5BG) would never let him win.

In the driveway, she lined up the bike. Her hands gripped the handles tight. 'This is it! I’m ready now!' she thought. Her heart raced as her mother watched, silently giving her support.

Down she went, speeding away, feeling free! But, oh no! Ahead was a very large tree! 'BAM!'—Dan hit the ground. 'MOMMY!' she cried out, in pain but still proud.

'You’re still brave!' her mother exclaimed. 'Even brave kids cry and call for their mommies!' Dan wiped her tears, feeling better already. 'Mom’s right,' she thought. 'I can try again!'

This time Dan did it, straight down the road! She sped back smiling, without a single new gash. 'Hooray!' she yelled. 'That’s my brave girl!' her mom said with pride.
