[Anaru](Y2DC4SFR) woke up before the sun, rubbing his sleepy eyes. He had important chores to do on the farm before heading to school. His dog, [Tāwhiri](X5LHY54J), wagged his tail eagerly, ready to start the day. "Kei te pai, [Tāwhiri](X5LHY54J)?" he asked, patting the dog on the head.

First, [Anaru](Y2DC4SFR) fed the noisy chickens that clucked in excitement as they ran toward their food. "Kia ora, ngā heihei!" he said, scattering the grain. Then he moved on to feed the hungry pig, [Tūpuna](XJCSPK6K), who snorted happily in her muddy pen.

With all the chores done, [Anaru](Y2DC4SFR) packed his school bag and began walking down the dusty road to school. The sun was rising higher, and the countryside was alive with birdsong. "Ahakoa he tawhiti, me haere tonu," he reminded himself—it was a long walk, but he had to keep going.

School was filled with laughter, learning, and stories about te ao Māori. [Anaru](Y2DC4SFR) practiced his writing and even recited a whakataukī in front of the class. By the end of the day, he was looking forward to the walk home—but he had a daring idea to take a shortcut.

Instead of the dusty road, [Anaru](Y2DC4SFR) decided to take a shortcut through the big paddock next to the farm. The grass was tall and swayed in the breeze. "Ka pai tēnei ara," he said to himself—it seemed like a good idea.

But just as he was halfway across the paddock, a big, grumpy-looking ram spotted him. The ram snorted and stomped its hooves. "Āe! Kia tere!" [Anaru](Y2DC4SFR) shouted to himself as he started running as fast as he could.

[Anaru](Y2DC4SFR)'s heart raced as the ram charged after him. He ran so fast that his feet barely touched the ground. Just before the ram reached him, [Anaru](Y2DC4SFR) leapt over the fence to safety. "Ka pai te oma," he laughed, catching his breath.

When [Anaru](Y2DC4SFR) finally got home, he told his whānau about his daring adventure. His dad chuckled and said, "Āta haere anō, e tama." [Anaru](Y2DC4SFR) grinned and nodded. He learned that while shortcuts can be exciting, sticking to the path might be the safer choice.
